SHIFT?Happens event set for March 24 at WCHS?PE?gym
The Annual SHIFT Happens Dodge for a Cause Dodgeball Tournament has been rescheduled to Friday, March 24 at the Webster City High School P.E. Gym, beginning with check-in at 5 p.m.
Originally scheduled for Feb. 24, the event was postponed due to severe weather, organizers said.
Students in fifth through 12th grade, as well as families and community members are invited to participate in the tournament. Check-in begins a 5 p.m. with dodge ball action getting underway at 5:30 p.m. Teams of 8 to 10 people are welcome and registration is $5 per participant.
There will be three tournament brackets again this year: middle school — fifth through eighth grade; high school, ninth through 12th grade; and community/family combo bracket. The event is open to any fifth through 12th grade student in Hamilton County as well as families, community members, businesses and groups.
Individuals may also support the cause by attending the tournament to cheer on the teams, donating door prizes or sponsoring a team. Admission is a free-will donation. All money will be donated to the Webster City School District and will be divided equally between Sunset Heights, Pleasant View, the middle school and the high school. Items purchased will be based on “wish lists” provided by teachers in the Special Education classrooms from each building. Last year, the group raised funds for the Jorden Leeper Memorial Youth Scholarship Fund. This year, SHIFT Happens is hosting an event that raises funds and awareness on acceptance.
