Roberta Knutson, Webster City, was elected chairwoman of the Van Diest Medical Center Board of Trustees Tuesday night during the board’s regular session.

Knutson takes over the reins from Carroll Ose. Other officers elected were Ose, who will serve as vice chairman and Kirk McCollough, secretary. Nomination Committee chairman Hank Witt said it was the committee’s recommendation that the former chairman remain on the executive committee because “otherwise we lose a world of valuable experience.”

Knutson said she would review the various board committee appointments and will contact the individual trustees about their assignments. She would like to have Trustee David Taylor remain on the finance committee as chairman. She added that she and McCollough would also serve on that committee.

Taylor and McCollough were presented their certificates of election by Ose. The two were re-elected to six-year terms in the November election.

The new medical staff officers were also acknowledged by the board. Officers are Dr. Nicole Ehn, president, Dr. Don Woodhouse, vice president and Dr. Kristopher Bedi, secretary-treasurer.

Officers for the Hospital Foundation for 2017 include Kreg Foster, chairman, Matt Shannon, vice chairman, Joyce Gelhaus, secretary and Troy Hassebrock, treasurer.

The board approved the dedication of the new roadway that extends north and east of the new clinic building to the city of Webster City. Ose explained the details of the road construction.

“The road built to the north was an investment of $772,550. Building the roadway was done at the time we have had two letters of intent to purchase two lots north of the hospital,” he said. The road will serve to benefit the hospital for future development but also satisfies the requirement from the city that VDMC provide an access road when the new hospital was built.

Capital requests totaling $126,565.75 were approved. Requested items included archive services to bring in electronic medical records from the former Webster City Medical Clinic, a phone system for the Jewell VDMC clinic, and mattresses for the medical-surgical department.
