Webster City residents, middle school students and local veterans attended the annual Veteran’s Day ceremonies on Friday at the Webster City Middle School.

American Legion Post 191 led the ceremonies in the school’s multipurpose room. Commander Dale Caquelin welcomed the students and the public. Legion Chaplain Bruce Johnston gave the invocation.

The middle school band, under the direction of Ashton Reams, performed several patriotic pieces for the program.

Leo Lanctot, a local veteran and member of Legion Post 191, was the keynote experience. Lanctot spoke of his service in the early 1960s in Europe, and talked about the history and ramifications of the Cold War.

The American Legion rifle squad stepped outside the school to fire a salute to all those who have served, followed by the playing of “Taps” by two middle school trumpet players. A moment of silence was observed as the city siren’s sounded at 11 a.m.

The Webster City High School also presented a program honoring veterans on Friday
