Jewell Jubilee is here
JEWELL – The community of Jewell will roll out the red carpet this weekend as it gets ready to host the annual Jewell Jubilee.
Events get underway Friday night at 5 p.m. with the Main Street Barbecue, sponsored by Jewell Area Development Enterprises (JADE). Tickets for the barbecue are $8 for adults and $5 for kids ages 5 to 12. A drive-through will also be available.
The Lions Club will host a pie and ice cream social beginning at 5:30 p.m., featuring ice cream from Sweet Treats.
Music by The Gustafsons will be featured in the Beer Garden. POET Biorefining is sponsoring inflatables for the kids. The Shed 5K/Rim Wa;l os at 6 p.m. with The Shed kids race at 6:45 p.m.
Other activities for children include tie dying t-shirts, nickel hunt sponsored by EJS Police Department, face painting by Roxanna Bodie and the craft happy hour at Doodles.
The Crystal Blue Band featuring The Hebrons will entertain at 8 p.m., sponsored by Central Iowa Ag. The beer garden will be open with Randall Fire Department serving.
The Lions Club fireworks at 10 p.m. will cap off the evening.
Saturday will bring the annual parade through Main Street at 10 a.m. Following the parade there will be a bake sale and the Lions Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the United Church of Christ. The Central Iowa Tractor Show will be featured on Main Street along with the Plymouth and Buick car show. Businesses will be open and there will be sidewalk sales and vendor sales on Main Street.
A pie eating contest begins at 1 p.m, and the inflatables will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Kids activities will be open from noon to 2 p.m. and will include tie dying t-shirts, Rock-a-thon painting rocks, crafts at doodles, karaoke, rock wall climbing by the National Guard, and a pedal pull sponsored by Jewell Home and Farm.
The Jewell Golf and Country Club will feature GloBall at 9:30 p.m.
Sunday will bring the community church service at 9 a.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church, followed by the hungry man’s breakfast and doughnut eating contest at 10 a.m.
