BLAIRSBURG?- Students at Northeast Hamilton Elementary School have been celebrating Read Across America Week with scholastic activities and dress-up days that will culminate with an all-school assembly on Friday.

Read Across America is a national event that takes place during the

birthday week of Dr. Theodore Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.

During the week, the students have taken part in several activities in

celebration of Read Across America, said Third Grade Teacher Tammy Massman.

The Third Grade class worked with their Kindergarten Buddies and took part in a rhyming word exercise. In addition, they played a rolling dice math game.

The students also took part in the Drop Everything and Read activity on Monday.

Throughout the week, the entire student body participated in dress-up themed activities.

On Monday, the students wore in their wildest socks. Oh, the Places You’ll Go was the theme for Tuesday, with students dressing for their dream job.

Wacky Wednesday found students in pajamas, hair-dos with a combination of braids and several ponytails and clothes on backwards.

On Thursday, students are wearing Cat in the Hat red and white, topped with a silly hat.

Book Character Day will conclude the week with students dressing as their favorite book character.

Also on Friday, a school-wide assembly will be held from 10:30 to 11:10 a.m. and is open to parents, grandparents and district patrons.

One of the highlights of the assembly will be the announcement of the One Hundred Minutes of Reading winner, said third grade teacher Tammy Massman.

Students were challenged to read 100 minutes throughout the week and the winning class gets to Silly String NEH Principal Mike Kruger, she said.
