BLAIRSBURG?- It was all fun and games at the Northeast Hamilton Spirit Club’s “Carnival” on Thursday night in the school gym.

“This event was a team effort,” said NEH Spirit Club member Carina Wahlert, who said many volunteers put in a lot of hours to make it happen.

“When you see the finished product and the excitement of the students having fun, it makes it all worth it!”

The evening started with a meal fit for a carnival – corn dogs, animal crackers, bananas, chips and a drink provided by the NEH Foundation.

Following the meal, guests strolled over to the gym where students, siblings, parents, grandparents and district patrons tried their skill at 12 different games.

Spirit Club members helped man the stations of the Cake Walk, Face Painting, Ladder Bean Toss, Bowling, Plinko, Go Fish and others. The Williams Lions Club, Kim Cavanagh – NEH Prom, and local patrons generously lent the games for the evening, said Wahlert.

Prizes for the games, drawings and decorations were donated by the Spirit Club, Carina and Wade Wahlert, Sara and Cory Zorn, Thea and Adam Wibholm, Janelle Oakland, Kim Schimp and Alison Friesleben.

Admission and participation were courtesy of the Spirit Club and the young and the young at heart enjoyed playing and watching the fun.

Over at the Photo Booth, kids dressed in disguises while over at the Cake Walk participants were hoping to score a sweet treat.

Bowling, Football Toss and Putt Putt Golf tested the skills of even the smallest athlete.

Williams Public Librarian Diane Sinclair showed her artistic skills by serving as the face painter for the night.

“All of the NEH facility and the community helped out,” said Wahlert, who noted everyone in the NEH family pitched in to make the event a success and to clean up afterwards. “Our custodians are wonderful!”

“It is a wonderful turnout,” said Carnival Barker Mike who is better known for his day job as NEH Principal Mike Kruger.

“This definitely was our biggest crowd since we started Trojan Spirit Night,” said Wahlert.

Trojan Spirit Night was created last summer by a group of parents interested in keeping school pride alive since the middle and high school students were to start whole grade sharing in Webster City last fall. Since

the high school spirit club had been instrumental in sponsoring all school spirit activities in the past, the elementary school parents wanted to fill that void.

The Trojan Spirit Club has sponsored monthly activities such as Homecoming Flag Football – Cheerleading and Hot Dog Roast, Family Bowling Night, Basketball Games and a magic show.

Upcoming events will include hosting the Family Reading Night in March and assisting the NEH staff for Makers Day in April.

The final Spirit Club event will be the NEH Field Day in May.

“What a wonderful community we live in and we truly appreciate everyone’s help,” said Wahlert. “I cannot express how much fun this was!”
