School board reviews IASB Convention
The Webster City Community School Board met Monday night. The board reviewed their time at the Iowa School Board Association Convention. Members of the board along with Superintendent Sherwood attended a series of sessions over a two-day period.
“We own our own culture and we need to lead by example,” Jaycox stated, “We should be talking about the culture almost every time we get together.”
Jaycox also spoke about different sized school systems embracing the media and using it to the advantage of the district. Jaycox informed the board of other school districts using specific media account for the sole purpose of updating the public on more complex issues as they occur.
The board observed a musical presentation by members of the WCHS choir. Ryan Ferrel, Matthew Johnson, Josie Asklund, Haley Johnson and Aaron Barnafus performed a selection entitled “God Bless Us Everyone” from the WCHS Choir Concert which was last night at 7:30 p.m. at the Prem Sahai Auditorium.
Kyle Porter, a student in the intro to building trades class at WCHS, spoke to the board about a recent day trip the class went on to help out Kingland Construction from Forest City.
“The reason why I’m having this presentation is because we feel like we should have more real life work experiences in school instead of just learning stuff out of the textbook and sitting in our chairs all day,” Porter stated.
“I want to congratulate the first Lego league team that Webster City has. They are called the Unbreakable Lynx. They are going to advance to state,” stated Juli Jaycox.
The board acknowledged the Webster City Education Agency Intent to Bargain which was presented by Pam Hayes.
The board approved special education contracts with Linn-Mar, Independence and Fort Dodge Public.
Jeff Pagel was approved as the WCHS Head Custodian by the board.
A resolution to consider continued participation in the instructional support program was set by the board for January 11, 2016 at 6 p.m.
The next school board meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 11, 2016 at 6 p.m. at the school administration office board room.
