The Webster City Fire Department have compiled some tips to keep local residents safe during the holiday. Listed below are “The 12 Safety Days of Christmas”…

On the first day of Christmas, check your Christmas tree lights to make sure they conform to U.L. (Underwriter Laboratories) standards.

On the second day of Christmas, never place candles near your Christmas tree or furnishings. Please also remember to put out your candles when using them.

On the third day of Christmas, make sure your family and guests know of your emergency escape plan.

On the fourth day of Christmas, decorations can burn easily. Do not attach them to lights or heaters.

On the fifth day of Christmas, never overload electrical outlets. Take special care with Christmas tree lights.

On the sixth day of Christmas and New Year’s, the risk of accidents are especially high in the kitchen area. Practice safe cooking habits.

On the seventh day of Christmas, most fires start in the kitchen. Never leave a burner unattended.

On the eighth day of Christmas, take time to check on your neighbors and elderly. Make sure they are fire safe.

On the ninth day of Christmas, if you smoke make sure cigarettes are out before you go to bed.

On the tenth day of Christmas, make sure Christmas trees stay watered.

On the eleventh day of Christmas, keep candles, lighters, and matches out of the reach of children.

On the twelfth day of Christmas, check the battery in smoke detectors. If you need a new battery, the Webster City Fire Department has batteries while supplies last.
