WCFD captains earn car seat installation certification

WCFD Captains Brandon Hayes and Andy Sowle instrct new parents how to install the child seat safely and correctly.

Webster City Fire Deaprtment Captains Andy Sowle, Brandon Hayes and Jeromy Estlund all attended a three- day course on vehicle child seat installations with National Child Passenger Safety Certification. This is a program put on by Safe Kids Worldwide.

All three are now certified in child seat installation. According to Chief Chuck Stansfield, the members had expressed interest in attending this kind of training since the department often has people come to the firehouse and ask about how to put in a child seat in their vehicle. The three captains are now the only certified child seat installers in Hamilton County currently according to the certification body.

Tests were given daily and there were a couple of evenings of installations and instructing over the three day long course.

“This is a great way the Fire Department will be able to assist the community in keeping children safer when in child seats in the car,” Stansfield said.
