WC teen wins essay contest

Alex Hooker, 17, a Webster City High School junior, won an Essay Contest sponsored by Fleet Reserve Association Branch 276 out of Omaha.

The topic of the Americanism — Patriotism essay was, “What does patriotism mean to me.”

The contest is for seventh through 12th grade students, with a first place given to each grade level. The winners essays were mailed to the North Central Regional level with the opportunity to advance to Nationals.

Francis Schrotberger, President of Branch 276 presented Alex with a plaque and a $100 prize.

The Fleet reserve association is for active, retired, reserve and sea service veterans.
