Annual hog roast is Sunday

— Submitted photo Kathy Swon, far left, and across the table, Don and Yvonne Johnson, all from Webster City, visit during a previous year’s hog roast at Southfield Wellness Community. This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday, May 6.

The public is invited to attend the Annual Hog Roast at Southfield Wellness Community located at 2416 Des Moines St. in Webster City on Sunday, May 6 at the independent and assisted living garages. Serving is from 11a.m. to 1 pm and will consist of pork sandwiches, all the fixings, dessert and beverage. No reservations are required for the free event.

A basket will be available to make optional, tax-deductible donations to Upper Des Moines Opportunity to help those in need. After the event last year, Southfield donated enough money to purchase ten truckloads of food for the local UDMO food pantry.

Marilyn Middleton, Marketing Coordinator, encourages everyone to stop by after church for a free meal and visit the care center or the independent and assisted living apartments. Staff will be available to discuss the many living options at Southfield Wellness Community, which is owned and operated by ABCM Corporation based in Hampton, Iowa.

The Annual Hog Roast always precedes National Nursing Home Week, which is May 13 to 19. The care center will be transformed into an “Under the Sea” theme for Nursing Home Week and will include special decorations in each neighborhood. Food and activities will match the theme each day. There will be a fishing trip and picnic to Brushy Creek and a band performing during happy hour. Residents will listen and dance to a live band when they dress their best for the seventh annual resident prom scheduled for May 19. Everyone is invited to join the festivities any day May 13-19.
