Morgan receives Kernel Award
Honor given to Scouts for top popcorn sales
Kamrar – Sean Morgan received the Kernel Award from Mid-Iowa Council, Boy Scouts of America for selling more than $1,300 of popcorn in Mid-Iowa Council’s Annual Popcorn Sale. Sean is a member of Pack 583 chartered by the Webster City Rotary and Kiwanis organizations. The Kernel Award was presented at a special recognition event in Des Moines on Dec. 9.
Since 1983, Mid-Iowa Council has conducted a Popcorn Sale to support 20,000 members throughout its 27 county territory in Central Iowa. More than 600 volunteers coordinate and participate in the annual Popcorn Sale.
In addition to helping fund their Scouting adventures, the process of planning, selling, and delivering the popcorn helps young people gain positive life skills.
The sale raises more than $1.2 million for local Scouting, with proceeds divided between the council and the individual Scout units that participate in the sale. The money is used to send Scouts to summer camps, pay for events like the Pinewood Derby, purchase camping equipment, and fund hundreds of other activities.
