Salsa Festival set for Saturday
ACE?Community Center to host contest, dancing and pig roast
ACE Community Center will be hosting a Salsa Festival this Saturday from 3 to 9 p.m. The free event will feature, salsa tasting and a family movie.
Salsa contest entries are still needed. Those who wish to make a salsa, dip or type of sauce that a chip can be dipped in can register by calling (515) 832-4153. Contest set-up will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Contestants are encouraged to make enough for 100 small samples. Chips and cups will be provided. Cost to enter the contest is $10.
Guests will be able to taste and vote for their favorites from 3 to 5 p.m. Winners and prizes will be announced at 5 p.m.
According to Janet Toering, ACE Education and Immigration Director, salsa dancing will begin at 5 p.m. The vendor fair and Marketplace will also be open. Vendors are also still needed. Cost is $10 to be a vendor at the event.
Toering encourages attendees to stay for an authentic pig roast. Mexican and Asian food delicacies will also be available. Cost for an adult meal is $8. Cost for a kid’s plate is $3. The meal will begin at 5 p.m.
A family movie will be shown beginning at 7 p.m.
Volunteers are still needed to assist with the contest, family games, food preparation, movie night, set-up and take-up.
