Woman of Year

Kathy Birkestrand, left, and Maureen Seamonds, who was named Woman of the Year by local Beta Sigma Phil chapters.

Members of the Gamma Omicron, Delta Upsilon, and Beta Chi chapters of Beta Sigma Phi met April 24 at the Second Street Emporium to celebrate the 86th anniversary of its founding.

The program was presented by Maureen Seamonds. Kathy Birkestrand later announced that Seamonds had been named the Woman of the Year for her community involvement. The artist, business woman, and champion for the handicapped was instrumental in the creation of Elm Street House, Legacy Learning Boone River Valley, and the Artist in Residence program.

Highlights of each chapter’s year were given by Kathy Theobald, Linda Bowers, and Loween Getter. Selected as Sisters of the Year were Cindy Howard and Loween Getter. A special guest of the evening was Kathleen Swon.
