Deciding today about health care in the future

There is growing concern over how medical care decisions will be made when people are unable to make decisions for themselves. To answer some very difficult life changing decisions, Southfield Wellness Community, owned and operated by ABCM Corporation, is sponsoring a program, “Deciding on Advanced Directives, Living Wills and IPOST.” IPOST (Iowa Physician Orders for Scope of Treatment) is new form for showing your preferences for life-sustaining treatment if you are unable to make your own healthcare decisions and family is unavailable.

The free event is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 28 at the Southfield Assisted Living Apartments, 2414 Des Moines St., 4 p.m. Zach Chizek, attorney with the Groves and Chizek Law Firm and Danielle Pagel Berglund, BSN, RN will present the informative program.

Many questions will be answered. What is an Advanced Directive and why is it helpful? What is a Living Will and why do you need one? Do I need a Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care? Who should be named as my agent? How do I execute the document? What about Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) Orders? All questions will be welcome and encouraged, according to John Boughton, Southfield Wellness Community Administrator.

No fee or registration is required. Snacks and beverages will be served.
