Readers theatre to meet

Group to read ‘Church Basement Ladies’

Webster City Community Theatre’s Readers Theatre will be reading the musical comedy, “The Church Basement Ladies” on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 3:30 pm. The reading will be directed by Wil Groves.

“Church Basement Ladies,” which is also WCCT’s summer show, is a celebration of the church basement kitchen and the women who work there. The show features four archetypal characters ranging in age from their 70s to early 20s. It explores their relationships as they organize the food, solve the problems of a rural Minnesota church, and navigate the tumultuous social changes occurring during the 1950s and 60s.

It is a journey by turns funny, heartwarming, nostalgic, and poignant. From crusty matriarch to bride-to-be, these four basement ladies stave off potential disaster, share and debate recipes, instruct the young and keep the Pastor on course. All this is accomplished while thoroughly enjoying (and tolerating) each other as life unfolds in the basement kitchen, beneath the house of God.

Bring a beverage of your choice and a snack to share and be prepared for a fun afternoon.
